Haircut...

There she was, lost on her way,
To a salon for her hair cut.
We got to talking, and I must say,
She has just the biggest...heart.

I couldn't help but stare
At the angel before me.
All the while thinking there
If she sees what I see.

We went for a drink after
While rain serenaded us with its patter.
Who knew such a story was possible,
That love at first sight was plausible.

There she was, lost on her way,
To a salon for her hair cut.
We got to talking, and I must say,
She ran off with my heart.

Defined Beauty...

Tell me your story,
I'll tell you mine.
Would you like a drink,
Perhaps some wine?

Get settled in,
Then we'll begin.
I see your sorrow and pain.
So, no need for you to refrain.

Your scars tell me all
That you're afraid to say.
I see a little girl inside
Who's been hurt in every way.

You cried out for help,
Nobody came.
You tried to hold it in,
Your wrists say you lost that game.

You laugh out loud,
You wear a perpetual smile.
Thinking you can fool any lout
Who comes within a mile.

Your mascara barely remained
When you drowned in tears.
You hesitate to go home,
You're paralysed by fear.

You stand small,
Scared of standing tall.
Wanting to be left alone,
Afraid of having a broken bone.

I see this, I see it all.
I see you waiting to fall.
For someone who will mend you,
Who will love you true.

Don't hide, don't be afraid.
You're beautiful as is.
Nothing comes close
To perfection like this.

Darkness...

Poems past, borne
Of sadness and pain,
Bore beauty unimaginable
With every bit of joy slain.

Traumatic childhood;
Depressing teenage years;
Defensive adulthood;
Never once shedding tears.

Holding it all inside,
"Everything's fine"
I lied;
And tried to end this life of mine.

Beautiful poetry had its cost:
Friends, love, sanity all lost.
What I paid for most,
Was having to live with my own ghost.

I know I need help,
This depression is killing me.
Please, knock on my door,
Don't leave me be.

I want some form of salvation,
To escape from the sorrow.
Even at the cost of beauty,
I want for a better tomorrow.

The Letter...

Time, it makes fools of us all.
It can make us strong,
It can make us fall;
There's no escaping its grasp thus long.

I took her for granted,
Every day, in every way.
She drove and took care of me,
Yet, nary a "Thanks" did I say.

She planned everything for us:
Vacations, a home, a future life;
While all I did was swear and curse
At this kind, patient angel who'd have been my wife.

Yes, I was unreasonable and an uncouth bore.
She'd make time for me even though her body was sore.
I realise now that she deserves so much more.
Alas, all I can do is beg, plead, and implore.

I pray that she takes me back,
So that I can begin to atone for my mistakes.
Until my body aches and my bones crack,
I vow to bring her happiness, whatever it takes.

I swear, it won't be like before.
I'll do all that you ask and more.
These aren't just empty promises too,
This time, I mean it, I truly do.

This time round, I'll plan everything;
Place you on a pedestal up high;
Be your chauffeur, take your chiding;
And never let you sigh.

Unfortunately, it's too late.
She won't give me one final chance.
She's happier now and that's great.
She doesn't need a relationship or romance.

For her birthday,
We'd go for a candle light picnic in a park;
Underneath the moon and stars that pale thus stark,
In comparison to her beauty, in every way.

Then we'd rent a small place of our own,
I'd make breakfast, lunch, and dinner for her every day.
Listen to her stories with glasses of wine;
Then repeat lines two and three until we're old and gray.

I've changed, but time makes a fool of me
For I took too long to realise my sins.
Now, those dreams will remain forever,
As dreams in their bins.

I don't know if she's reading this,
But if she is,
All I ask is for a year to bring you bliss,
And if I fail, I shall leave you in peace.

Memories Past...

There’s this girl I know,
Whose dream it is to travel,
To see distant lands and snow;
To go far and get away from this hovel.

She loves to read;
She loves to eat:
Chocolates, mushrooms, and green tea;
And is lazy.

She wants someone who
Takes care of her and understands
That she is a queen
And blessed is the king who shares her lands.

Yes, I know you,
I always did, it’s true.
Yet, I took you for granted.
Thus, it’s my punishment we parted.

So, I hope you find joy;
And if there’s someone new,
May he not make my mistakes;
He’s one of the lucky few.

Until the end of times,
I pray you’ll forgive my crimes.
Let me end now and say:
I wish you a happy birthday.

Reflection...

Always.
Now, until forevermore;
Giving you my love,
Just as in times of yore;

If ever that day comes;
Never shed a tear
You won’t be alone.
I love you, dear.

I love you, dear.
You won’t be alone.
Never shed a tear
If ever that day comes;

Just as in times of yore;
Giving you my love,
Now, until forevermore;
Always.

Sublime Reflections...

My love for you is true.
I can only say,
You stuck to me like glue,
Through heartache and dismay,

I thank you for being there,
Though the years may wear and tear,
I vow, promise, swear,
I’ll take care of you, anyhow, anywhere.
__________

I’ll take care of you, anyhow, anywhere.
I vow, promise, swear,
Though the years may wear and tear,
I thank you for being there,

Through heartache and dismay,
You stuck to me like glue,
I can only say,
My love for you is true.

For You...

Auburn hair blowing freely;
Noodles in cups, salmon, "HUE", and
Green tea sustains her eternally,
Just as playing with cats in the sand.

It feels like a dream that we're together.
Now, hear as I tell you something that's true.
You, my dearest princess,
I love you.

Lullaby

Go to sleep, my dear.
I'll wipe away your tears.
The sun will rise tomorrow
And take away your fears.

I'll tuck you into bed,
Kiss your head,
Wrap my arms around you;

Replay the words you said
In my head,
Over and over, it's true.

So, I'll hold on tight.
Not letting go tonight.
From this point on,
Until we're gone.

So, go to sleep, my dear.
The sun will rise tomorrow.
You will have nothing to fear;
Forget about your sorrow.
Go to sleep, my dear.

Moonlit Love...

Her smiling face;
Her warm embrace;
Her beauty thus divine;
I can't believe she's mine.

Her gaze, piercing to my core;
Her hands, gentle on bruises thus sore;
Her lips, sweet and fine;
I can't believe she's mine.

Her laugh is what I adore;
Her love, as mystical as ancient lore,
And the way she reads each and every line;
I can't believe she's mine.

She is adorable at any time of the day;
When she has just awoken,
Or when playing with our cat,
Or trying to look innocent when something's broken.

I see that twinkle in her eyes,
When she sniffs her favourite pies.
I've memorised the sound of her sighs
And the subtle variation of her excited cries.

The moon shining her favourite shade of blue
As we lay here under the stars tonight,
I shall not sleep nor shall I blink
For I fear she will be gone by morning light.

Thank You...

Time stands still
As your eyes peer into mine.
Being with you is such a thrill,
Better than any drug or wine.

Ever since you came along,
Your words have been my sweetest song.
Soothing me to no end
And I never once had to pretend.

You accept me as I am;
You're endlessly patient and kind;
You stuck by me always,
Even at times when I lose my mind.

I vow,
Here and now,
To always treat you right,
And never shall we fight.

You have shown me
How to put away my pride;
The countless times you made me see,
When you placed your own aside.

Thank you, for being mine every day;
Thank you for loving me in every way.
I will love you come what may,
I will love you 'till we're old and grey.

It Wasn't Real...

You hoped you wouldn’t be
Just another passing number to me.
You doubted my love for you,
You doubted if it was ever true.

Yet, you gave up at every opportunity,
Walked away with impunity.
Everything I did, you stared at in incredulity,
Yet, your own actions claimed immunity.

Never were you looking to
Live happily ever after with me.
If your words were ever true,
Then why share a room with every single guy you see.

You say I can’t handle a strong, independent woman,
I can’t handle hypocrites is what I say.
You decreed certain actions be outlawed,
Yet, you do them every single day.

Thank you,
You’ve set me free;
Your words were never true,
That much, now plain to see.

Dinner For Two(Part 1)...

At your door he arrives,
He said eight, but he's early.
You're curious and ask him why,
He says he missed you dearly.

Cheeky,
You can't help but smile and grin.
He opens his car door for you,
His hand ready to cushion your head as you get in.

Thankfully you get in fine.
The car frame didn't bump your head, great.
He gets in the driver's seat,
Now, begins the date.

You wonder where he'll bring you,
So you ask - "Where are we going?"
"It's a cute little Italian restaurant". He replies.
"That sounds nice". You say, almost glowing.

He starts asking about your day,
You tell him it was fine and ask about his.
He says "It's getting better with every passing second".
You didn't expect that, but feel you could get used to this.

Arriving at the restaurant,
He stops and alights at the front door;
Opens yours and helps you out,
You wonder how much more he has in store.

At your table, he prepares a chair for you to sit,
You tell him your order and he places it.
You think to yourself that the night is going swell,
Then you realise - he may be acting out the gentleman very well.

You tell yourself you'll wait and see.
If he's acting, he'll get tired somehow.
A crack in his facade is enough to show
Just what kind of a monster he can be.

Lucky Star...

Love tells us all we need to know;
It makes us happy, makes us glow.
Sure, at times, it may hurt badly,
And may also make us act madly.

Fear not, for you shall find,
That amazing girl who’ll blow your mind.
And she’ll make you want to be more;
A gentleman, to your very core.

She’ll be perfect in every way,
And you’ll wake up every day,
Thinking of how lucky you truly are,
To have this lady, your lucky star.

You...

To be with you,
Let me be the me you met;
Change not who I am for someone new,
Lest we both be filled with regret.

Leave judgment to others
And love me for me;
Then when we’re lazing around on Sundays,
I’ll make soft scrambled eggs with brie.

Show me the world
As it was meant to be;
For how beautiful it truly is
When you’re with me.

Perfect Love...

I know you're waiting for love.
You're tired and battered, waiting every day,
But there's a greater plan up above
And your perfect love is on the way.

Your heart has taken hits, it's true.
You cradle it, all black and blue.
You swear off relationships
And you're weary of words from sweet lips.

You know you're brave, independent and tough.
You know that you, alone, are enough.
So you say you don't deserve love and affection
And you become cautious when given attention.

You shy away when we say "Hi".
You remember, always, the pain of good bye.
You convince yourself that you'll never again cry,
And you drown yourself in work, numbness and rye.

Then come days when memories flash back
Of when you were happy and thought it would last.
You fill a tear or two with the pain of reminiscence,
And you shrug it off as days gone past.

Yes, I know you better than you give me credit for;
I've felt anger and bitterness down to my very core;
Felt love die and embraced hatred;
Then built walls and encased myself even more.

I have learnt a few things though,
Nobody is perfect and few come close to it,
But love isn't about finding someone who is perfect
Nor finding good looks, riches or quick wit.

It's finding someone who is perfect for you;
Someone who can be there for you when you're sad;
Someone who can get you through obstacles;
Someone who will reprimand you when you're bad.

It's the 3AM snacking in bed
Watching your favourite toons.
It's the cooking together in your pajamas
And singing together in the shower like a pair of loons

It's the writing of poems just to see you smile;
It's crying over silly dreams knowing they won't judge;
It's the random hugs and late night heart to hearts;
It's the knowing that their eternal love for you won't budge.

You know you want that too
Because that's the love that's meant for you.
It's all of that and so much more,
It's your perfect love that's still in store.
